San Francisco: Juniper Von Phitzer Press, 1976. Hardcover. iii, 32 loose leaves sandwiched between wood-patterned boards, tied together with a thin black rope. Minor foxing in one quadrant of the exterior boards, interior pages clean and crisp. Numbered 168 of 200 examples, signed by Hiemstra. Cover design depicting a phoenix chick hatching from an egg is added in pen by hand. "Leaves are forming everywhere, even while we talk." Hiemstra and his partner Lloyd L. Nielson founded the Juniper Von Phitzer Press (named after three cats) in 1976; this was their first production. The press later became known for its miniature books.
