Stated first edition;limited to four hundred copies, this being number 263; signed by the author on the numbered colophon page in the back; There was no trade edition of this title. 9 x 6, marbled boards with printed label. Textblock very good plus condition, just a bit age toned; red marbled paper covered board binding in very good condition; tight, some shelf wear, esp spine and extremities; 17 pages; bookplate on front pastedown of Edward Kerr, a prominent American who has a large park named after him in Pennsylvania; quite a rare imprint--and with Faulkner's autograph. Comes in a custom-made collector's slipcase.

Red marbled paper boards, title in black on label affixed to front cover. Solid text block, light sunning to spine, a touch of wear to corners. A near fine example. Signed by the author on limitation page, this copy being number 312 of 400. William Faulkner (1897-1962) was a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recognized for A Fable in 1955 and The Reivers in 1963. The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, and Light in August were recognized by The Modern Library on their 1998 list of 100 Best English-language Novels of the 20th Century. Faulkner primarily set his stories in the American South, many of which took place in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County.

New York: Random House, 1931. One of 400 copies SIGNED BY FAULKNER - THIS MARKED PRINTER'S COPY. Written in ink on the colophon: "This `printer's copy` was mine. It was designed by me, John s. Fass." Also laid in is a copy of the 2 page, typed letter by the Inspector of the Post Office Department of Mississippi directed to Faulkner, then Postmaster of the University of Mississippi, stating the charges against him tht would eventually force him to resign his position. Faulkner's tenure there was marked by his general lack of interest and neglect. Details of the charges describe Faulkne's penchant for playing golf and cards during working hours, reading, being surly, randomly tossing mail into the garbage and other offenses characteristic of the young novelist. A fine copy of this signed limited Faulkner book in a red custom cloth folding box.. By the Author. First And Only Edition. Marbled Red Boards. Fine/Excellent. 8vo..

Very good book with some toning to boards, some wear and splitting to paper on spine, tiny black spot to front board, bookseller's ticket to rear pastedown; glassine wrapper with some shallow chipping and small closed tears to edges. A very nice copy overall, scarce in the original glassine, and additionally inscribed by the author. Idyll in the Desert, set in southwest Arizona, tells the passionate story of a woman who leaves her husband and two children to be with a younger man.
