Illustrator: Various. 1.1 kg; XIV, 314 pages, includes a list of books (other books are mentioned in the footnotes), index. 95 illustrations reproduced in black-and-white film manuscripts and publications from the 15th century through to the 20th century. In original cloth binding, untrimmed front and bottom edges, slight darkening/spotting of the top edge of the text block. Internally near fine. The dust jacket, or should I say the remnants of the dust jacket are now protected in archival sleeving, and shows the depredations of insects. "A noted authority on the graphic arts here considers the whole field of book illustration, tracing the development of the art and emphasising some basic principles by an analysis of outstanding illuminated books." -- price clipped front fold over blurb.
