Front wrapper coming detached, some insect damage to the title page. Otherwise a bright clean example. Nicely illustrated. Wraps. McIntosh Battery & Optical Co was established in 1879, and was a prolific manufacturer of electrical apparatus. Davis & Dreyfus (Finest Instruments) shows two copies of this catalog, OCLC one example from a previous year. We've seen a few copies over the years.

Much of the content is focused on the individual practitioner, and the focus has shifted (from earlier catalogs) to a wider range of equipment.

Stapled wraps, 8 x 5 3/4 inches, 272 pp., index, numerous illustrations (engravings), five plates of radiographs (demonstrating the new technology). Besides the illustrations, there is substantial text (background/descriptive/explanatory text, testimonials, use of electricity in the therapy of various diseases, book reviews). Text on how to set up and use X-ray tubes. Front cover missing, otherwise complete; some very short tears to edges of first few pages; one inch tear to first page, lower spine aspect; mild foxing, first page only; fuffling of fore-edge corners, mostly upper; a little worming involving the upper margin of pages 171-194, not involving text or illustrations; otherwise, pages clean and binding strong. Except for the absence of the front cover, none of these defects interfere with text or illustrations. Rare in any condition or edition.
