Lalauze, Private, ca 1879.. Tall hardback, 12 x 8.5 inches. Quarter bound fine leather binding by “Hatchards, Piccadilly.” Polished maroon leather to spine and corners edged in gilt, with red cloth to boards. Raised banding, gilt lettering, and decoration to spine. Marbled endpapers, top page edges gilt. In very good condition. Cover clean and bright. Some slight rubbing to edges else very good. Bookplate to front endpaper “Laurentii Currie.” Binders stamp to top corner. Some minor light foxing to plates else very clean and tight. Neat pencil inscription to first plate “Paul Wyman.” Else a very good clean and tight copy. 8 original B&W engraved plates. Engraving sizes approx 5 x 3.5 inches, with two smaller engravings approx 2 x 1.5 inches. (Thin paper.) Adolphe Lalauze (8 October 1838 – 18 October 1906) was a prolific French etcher who made the illustrations for many books. He won various awards and was made a knight of the Legion of Honour.
