Vint & Anderson, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, 1801. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Full title: An Impartial History of the Town and County of Newcastle Upon Tyne and Its Vicinity comprehending an Account of its Origin. Population; Coal, Coasting, & Foreign Trade. together with An Accurate Description of all its Public Buildings, Manufactories, Coal Works etc. Full leather with simple gilt decoration and dark red title-label on the spine. Leather is well-worn and split (and lifting) along the length of the front external joint, board is securely attached by cords although paper is split over inner front hinge, binding of rear cover is secure also. Both inner paste-downs are lifted entirely from the inside of the coves, internal binding is sound except that pages 219-220 are only partially attached and the fold-out View of St Nicholas Church is wholly detached. End-papers are foxed and darkened. rear has calculatioon in pencil on reverse. There is no half-title present. Title-page with vignette of colliery with boat in the distance and town on the horizon is darkened. Pages are clean with minimal foxing, latter pages have a light vertical ripple/crease. Contains: ffep,title; Subscriber's names [8]; Dedication and Address viii; text and Contents (index) 9-612; rfep [2]. Plates are: Fold-out, A view of St Nicholas Church from the North East (detached and a little darkened); Fold-out, A View of All Saints Church (a little darkened); A View of the Infirmary with the New Building (short closed tear at one corner just reaching into the corner of the print, a little darkened).
