[Sebastopol, California]:: Krahn & Press,, 2022.. Edition of 20 + 4 hors de comerce. 5 x 7", 84 pages. Letterpress (text) & Indigo Electroink (images) on Mohawk Superfine papers. Bound in gray bookcloth with title on front cover. Housed in 7.5 x 11 x 4.75" lidded storage box. Title inserted in metal label holder attached to box. Hand sculpture laid in box. Numbered. Signed by both artists. Sara Press: "What if there was a standard-issue handbook that resolved grief, discord, paradox and ancestral trauma? As young artists, we dreamed of a world where there were no rules, but in this time of internal & external chaos, we wish there were more definitive answers. "During a particularly difficult year, we traded sketchbooks back and forth, completing each other's empty hands with objects that communicated our struggles and sought solutions. "We know nothing is simple, but we indulged ourselves with the fantasy that things could be. We knew our drawings, born from questions, would contain all the answers if seen in the right combinations. So we indexed them with the moral authority of any other handbook grasping at truths, and solved all the world's problems." "Inconclusive Manual for Unanswerable Questions" contains 36 images of a hand holding an object. The artists divided these solutions into 21 problems/issues - from "To Deal with Intolerable Grief" and "maintaining Order in Your Household" to "How to Raise a Child" and "How to Let Go". The table of Contents identifies each issue and the drawings they feel may help with a truth or solution. This being a 'manual' one can read from front to back or pick an item from the list and go directly to that figure for a thoughtful answer. Each book comes with a life-sized gypsum cement hand that cradles it for display in different ways.

Chicago, Illinois:: Theodora Press,, 1991.. Edition of 10. 7.5 x 13.25"; 28 pages. Accordion fold. 15 hand-colored etchings. Letterpress titling, ornaments, and colophon. Printed on Rives lightweight. Bound in a top-fold accordion with gatefold opening. Signed and numbered by the artist. Teresa Pankratz: "'Pas de Deux' is a visual narrative depicting a couple's frustrated attempt at intimacy. Bound by self-imposed constrictions, they reach out - but never quite touch. "This tale was inspired by a performance piece entitled 'Nothing Up Your Sleeve' performed by Nan Shineflug and Jeff Abell of the Chicago Moving Company (one of the first modern dance troupes in the Midwest)." The French pun - pas de deux as dance duet for two, and pas meaning not - underscores the point. The beauty of the etchings and the delicacy of the construction turn what might have been a vaudeville skit into a poignant story.

The text is by Dylan Thomas The Force that through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower from THE POEMS OF DYLAN THOMAS, copyright 1939 by New Directions Publishing Corp. Fred Hagstrom: "While the poem is certainly open to multiple interpretations, to me it has always been about the basic forces of nature, particularly about the renewal that comes in the cycle of life and death. The Haeckel images are some of the most beautiful drawings/prints I have seen in natural history illustrations. Radiolaria are a form of protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons. The forms of the actual specimens that make up the Haeckel illustrations are incredibly intricate and diverse. I was struck by the beauty of these…

St. Paul, Minnesota:: Strong Silent Type Press,, 2021.. Edition of 15. 14 x 19.5"; 26 pages including pastedowns. Printed in relief from laser cut blocks. Verdana font. Annigoni paper. Drum leaf binding. Bound in illustrated boards with cloth spine. Signed and numbered by the artist. Fred Hagstrom: "'Pipeline' documents the ongoing protests against the construction of the Enbridge Line 3 oil pipeline that will take tar sands oil from Canada to Superior Wisconsin. It is actually a new line along a new route, leaving the old pipeline in the ground. The line crosses land that is held by tribes without honoring treaty rights. It is seen as a threat to the sources of water in northern Minnesota, including the Mississippi and numerous wetlands and streams in the Lake Superior watershed. Tribes are also concerned about the effects of possible spills on wild rice beds. The oil from this line will greatly add to emissions."

Bound in paper wraps with woodcut title illustration on front cover. Sewn binding. Each woodcut numbered, titled, and signed. Epigone Press: "This unconventional travel guide to America chronicles the experience of an artist on the road described through 26 woodcut prints. The prints range from events like a rodeo and happy hour, to Chicago on the day of the stock crash of 1987, to a jazz club in New York and a wrecking yard in Jamaica Queens, along the way it includes murders, car wrecks, and homecoming parades. Over the nine month period that the artist traveled around the country he camped in snow storms, and in swamps, worked as a janitor, and cut the wood blocks that make up this book." Judith A. Hoffberg, Umbrella, June 1994, Vol. 17 No. 2: "There is a nervousness to his line to generate the energy that America…
