New York: Hurd & Houghton. Rag_book. Fair. Cloth primer with glued-on paper on front and back "covers." Paper is yellow and front panel has edge chipping, a 1/2" X 2" piece missing at top edge, a nickle-size piece missing at spine edge and another small piece missing toward the front edge. Lettering and picture of school teacher and two small children are still fairly clear. Back panel also has edge pieces missing and chipping along spine edge. Publisher gives a listing of their other books on rear panel. In the interior pages each letter is illustrated with a color picture and a short poem beginning with that letter. Both capital and small Roman alphabet letters are shown as well as syllable and two to four letter sentences. Pages have foxing and front edges are fraying a bit. Bottom front corner tips are turning up. A few pages have "practice" letters written on them in pencil. No date is listed, but these cloth primers were popular in the mid-19th century.
