The author says it is the intent of this article to call attention to some of the Indiana physicians' contributions in fields not ordinarily considered their province. After briefly tracing the general story of natural history and geology in the state, the article relates the part taken in this development by certain medical men whose contributions were outstanding. Among the physicians interested in biology were Asahel Clapp, Rufus Haymond, Alembert W. Brayton, and Marcus Ward Lyon, Jr. Among those interested in geology were Ryland T. Brown, William T. S. Cornett, Moses N. Elrod, and Arthur J. Phinney..
