Signed. First Edition. Near Fine / near fine. Judge Sarah Hughes may be best remembered for swearing in Lyndon Johnson on Air Force One after President Kennedy was assassinated. She was appointed as the first woman judge in Texas history. She was also nominated to be the Vice President in 1952. She was appointed Federal District Judge in 1961 by President Kennedy. Judge Hughes also a member of the 3 judge panel that overturned the Texas anti-abortion law which was upheld by the Supreme Court. The book is slightly cocked, but otherwise in excellent condition. It is inscribed to Ruth Maddox who was the 3rd woman to graduate from SMU with a degree in Electrical Engineering and who worked in that capacity her whole life. The book is inscribed, dated and signed by the author on the half title page.
