About This Item

Signed. First Edition. Near Fine / near fine. Judge Sarah Hughes may be best remembered for swearing in Lyndon Johnson on Air Force One after President Kennedy was assassinated. She was appointed as the first woman judge in Texas history. She was also nominated to be the Vice President in 1952. She was appointed Federal District Judge in 1961 by President Kennedy. Judge Hughes also a member of the 3 judge panel that overturned the Texas anti-abortion law which was upheld by the Supreme Court. The book is slightly cocked, but otherwise in excellent condition. It is inscribed to Ruth Maddox who was the 3rd woman to graduate from SMU with a degree in Electrical Engineering and who worked in that capacity her whole life. The book is inscribed, dated and signed by the author on the half title page.

About mark mcdonald

Book collector for over 30 years. I'm retired and ready to sell. I buy almost exclusively from estate sales and since I've lived in Dallas my whole life, I know the people and where to go. I am a low volume collector and seller and deal in higher quality books. I have a lot of signed and inscribed books. These signatures have not been officially authenticated, but I am confident in their authenticity so I will guarantee them in perpetuity if it can be reasonably demonstrated that the signature is incorrect. .
