About This Item
New York: the MacMillan Company 1917, 2nd printing. (hardcover) xiii, [3], 367pp, [9]. Very good plus, no dust jacket. 12mo. In original green cloth boards, lettering in dull-gold to spine, top and bottom boards with simple double-ruled border in blind. Lacking exceedingly scarce jacket. Light bumping to head and heel of spine. Else, boards with only a couple tiny spots of superficial surface soiling. Top edge dust-darkened. Fore-edge roughcut. With an original, signed letter from the Censor of Canada pasted to ffep. Internally, with only a few small spots of marginal marks in pencil. A handsome, early printing of this work. The Encyclopedia Britannica states that, with this work, "Veblen acquired an international following. He maintained that modern wars were caused mainly by the competitive demands of national business interests and that an enduring peace could be had only at the expense of "the rights of ownership, and of the price system in which these rights take effect.""..
