Minor chip to foot of dj spine otherwise clean and bright. Pp. xviii, 317 with 99 colour photographs of living insects, 7 colour photographs of preserved specimens by S. Beaufoy, EJ Hudson and others, 104 B/W photographs, 8 distribution maps and 40 diagrams. Note to Second, Revised Edition: Dr. A. D. Imms died on 3 April, 1949. The Editors gratefully acknowledge the assistance and authority of Dr. GC Varley, Hope Professor of Entomology at the University of Oxford, and his colleague Dr. B M Hobby, who have revised the text. Distinguished by their enticing dust jackets colorfully illustrated by Clifford and Rosemary Ellis, The New Naturalist series encouraged the study of natural history for the general reader in a most appealing format.
