About This Item

London: [London] In the Savoy: printed by E. and R. Nutt and R. Gosling, (assigns of E. Sayer Esq;) for Richard Sare near Gray's-Inn Gate in Holborn. MDCCXXIV. [1724], 1724. 3rd Edition . Leather. Very Good. Description: Folio (13¾ × 8¾ in): frontis., t-p., xi, 663, [36] p. (the final page an advertisement). Contemporary calf. · Register: 2º: [a]² b-c² d1 B-4P^4 4Q-4Z² [5A]1. · Condition: Joints cracked, shelf-worn, especially at corners; paper somewhat embrowned, but free of foxing. · Comments: Third edition. The only substantial introductory work in a systematic order to appear between Finch's Law and Blackstone's Commentaries. Although Blackstone praised Wood for putting the law in a regular order, he criticized his style as lacking proportion in the titles, being too contracted in some areas and too diffuse in others. · References: Johnson 207 (8 copies); Bridgman 367; Worrall 84; Marvin 743; S&M 1:38(88); Holdsworth, HEL 12:418-419; ESTC N7731.
