  • Used
Broadside (ca. 53 x 46 cm). Folded horizontally, edges slightly frayed, one small stain, otherwise in very good condition.

A large broadside outlining the duties of the superintendent of the Amsterdam Korenbeurs ("grain bourse").

As a commodity market where grain from the Baltic region was traded, the Korenbeurs played an important role in the economic boom of Amsterdam during the Golden Age. Built in 1616/1617 by Hendrick de Keyser, it stood on the banks of the Amstel. The original wooden building was rebuilt in brick in 1768 and finally demolished in 1884.

Interestingly, among the duties of the superintendent was to ensure that no fireworks were lit in the Korenbeurs.
