Born in London, Samuel Insull (1859-1938) moved to Chicago and became a business magnate, beginning with Edison in 1881. Insull helped create the electric grid & devised electric supply solutions to save consumers money and ways corporations could market securities. Associated w/multiple scandals during The Great Depression & beyond on one hand, he built the Civic Opera House in Chicago on the other. In his heyday, Insull controlled companies serving electricity, gas & transportation in 5000 communities spread over 32 states..
