A very fine and bright copy with plain grey dust jacket. A detailed and scholarly study of the legal system employed by Spain in the 18th century throughout its American colonies in an attempt to streamline the existing inefficient system. Includes coverage of the four departments of government which it formally recognized. Included is the translation from the Spanish of the Ordinance of Intendants for New Spain, outlining the provisions of the system, and the function and powers of the intendants. The ordinances for different colonies varied slightly. The Mexican legal code was chosen by the author to translate because it is more voluminous that the other ordinances for Spanish America. Very scarce in this condition..

The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
