A lovely first edition copy of this fascinating international directory of painters and sculptors of the nineteenth century, containing the names, dates, and artistic fields of eighty-nine thousand artists active in the period. This text is in German, with the preface and introduction also written in English, French, Spanish and Italian. This copy features a ribbon bookmark with an attached laminated 'List of Abbreviations'. Copiously illustrated throughout with charming colored plates of notable artistic works. Complete with the original unclipped dustwrapper and slipcase. In a full red cloth binding, complete with original unclipped dustwrapper and slipcase. Externally lovely. Very slight marking to title of spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout. Dustwrapper slightly bumped to extremities. Slight chipping and very small tear to lower extremity of front of wrap, with tape repair. Tape repair to lower fore edge of rear wrap. Offsetting from title to spine of cloth binding, offset to verso wrap, not visible to recto. Slipcase, excellent. Very slight handling marks to slipcase. As New

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
