About This Item

apud Ernestum Claudium Bailliar, Francofurti et Lipsiae, 1729. Contemporary vellum, title in red and black, 17 cm,. [14], 969, [91] pp. Much of bibliographic and bibliophilic interest including a survey of literary societies, also sections on periodicals, biography, criticism, banned books, and history of printing. Taylor, Book Catalogues, (2nd edition , revised, 1987) describes this 1729 edition as "what might be called a variorum edition" noting that the publisher did not find space for all the amendments proposed from the previous edition of 1710. Contemporary manuscript spine-title. Vellum singed at lower fore-edge corner of front board with related discolouration over a triangle 9 cm x 3 cm, and covers generally rather darkened and soiled. Front free endpaper torn with edgeloss of up to 2 cm along fore-edge, and title-page and next few pages neatly repaired for slight edgeloss at fore-edges. Some staining to margins of first few leaves, contents otherwise quite clean.
