About This Item

Edinburgh: Printed for the Booksellers. 1779. 12mo (in 6s), 178 x 103 mms., pp. xi [xii blank], 299 [300 adverts], contemporary sheepskin; lacks all before title-page, first several leaves soiled, leaf of schoolboy notes (early 20th century) loosely inserted, binding worn, joints cracked. Mair (1702 - 1769) published this with the Ruddimans first in 1750, and it was frequently reprinted and used as a text-book well into the 19th century. He also wrote a book on book-keeping which proved to be even more popular and useful. ESTC N7787 locates copies at Harvard and Rutgers (2). A ninth edition of the same year has an identical imprint, with the date in numbers rather than Roman numerals.
