About This Item

Washington DC: Regnery Publishing, Inc, 2002. First Printing [Stated]. Hardcover. Very good/very good. xvi, 332, [4] pages. Appendixes. Notes. Index. Michelle Malkin (née Maglalang; born October 20, 1970) is an American conservative blogger, political commentator, and author. Her weekly syndicated column appears in a number of newspapers and websites. She is a Fox News Channel contributor and has been a guest on MSNBC, C-SPAN, and national radio programs. Malkin has written four books published by Regnery Publishing. She founded the conservative websites Twitchy and Hot Air. Malkin began her journalism career at the Los Angeles Daily News, working as a columnist from 1992 to 1994. In 1995, she worked in Washington, D.C. as a journalism fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a free-market, anti-government regulation, libertarian think tank. In 1996, she moved to Seattle, Washington, where she wrote columns for The Seattle Times. Malkin became a nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate in 1999. For years, Malkin was a frequent commentator for Fox News Channel and a regular guest host of The O'Reilly Factor. Since 2007, she has concentrated on her writing, blogging, and public speaking, although she still appears on television occasionally, especially with Sean Hannity and formerly with Greta Van Susteren on Fox News and Fox & Friends once a week. Malkin founded the websites Hot Air, an internet broadcast network, and Twitchy, a Twitter content curation site. Her first book, Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces (2002) was a New York Times bestseller. Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores is a 2002 book written by political commentator and author Michelle Malkin. In it, she states that the U.S. immigration system is plagued by bureaucratic inertia, political correctness, corruption and pressure from corporate special interests, that weaknesses in the US immigration system played a role in the September 11, 2001 attacks, and that criminals and terrorists are able to exploit loopholes to get into the United States. In an interview on the Dr. Laura Show, Michelle Malkin summarized her book as follows: " Invasion shows how every component of immigration enforcement has failed - from overwhelmed consular offices, to overwhelmed borders, to overwhelmed detention centers and deportation proceedings. I tell the buried stories of dozens of Americans who died as a result of lax and incompetent immigration enforcement: grandmothers, teenagers, rookie cops and veteran troopers brutally murdered by criminal aliens on the loose. I analyze the immigration failures that led to September 11, and I expose the shocking stories of torturers and other suspected war criminals who waltzed through our front doors along with foreign terrorists." The book was reviewed primarily in conservative opinion journals. Malkin complained that the mainstream media ignored it. " There have been no reviews in major newspapers ... Conservative advocates of illegal alien-friendly policies ... presumably are aware of the book but may not want to call attention to it ... Left-leaning advocates of illegal alien-friendly policies seem not to be aware of the book. ... In most cases, I attribute the silence not to willful neglect or ignorance but to lack of interest. Most editors and pundits, including conservative opinion leaders, simply do not care about illegal immigration, even after 9/11." VDARE founder Peter Brimelow wrote of Malkin's book: "It may not advance her career. But it is a signal service to her country."[ NewsMax gave it positive coverage. FrontPage's review stated that "Malkin deserves praise for calling attention to problems that even many conservatives would prefer to ignore." The book was reviewed in National Review, Reason Magazine, and Human Events, and reached #14 on the New York Times bestseller list.
