Description:
A little foxing here and there, and some fraying of the spine heads and heels, but all pages clean and tight. One foldout has two small tears.Arguably the greatest diary in English by possibly the world's greatest diarist. This is Henry B Wheatley's 1896/1897 10-volume publication (the diary in 8 volumes, plus the index published in 1924 and the Pepysiana published in 1928). This is the diary the world knew until Robert Latham's and William Matthews' nine-volume definitive edition of 1970-1983.These eight volumes of the diary belonged to and bear the bookplates of Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1859-1909), eldest son of Grand Duchess Catherine Mikhailovna and a cousin of Emperor Alexander III of Russia. He was a Major General in the Russian Army, a skilled musician and the founder of the Mecklenburg Quartet.

Description:
London : Hodder and Stoughton A near fine copy of the 2nd Hodder edition of this classic work with 24 tipped in colour plates and numerous black and white illustrations and designs by Kay Nielsen. Undated but circa 1915. With original red cloth with gilt illustration to front board, and new leather spine, with gilt-lined raised bands and title and illustrator labels. The binding is in near fine clean condition. The corners are lightly turned and there are a couple of very small slightly faded areas on the back board. The contents are complete and have new endpapers. The paper is lightly toned towards the edges and there is occasional very light marking mainly to the bottom margin. There is a very small repaired edge tear to the bottom edge of p246. The first plate (after the frontispiece) does not have a caption - the caption is on a plain leaf bound before it - this was clearly intentional as the pagination accounts for the extra leaf. A lovely copy. Please enquire if you would like to see…

Description:
New Island Books, 2022 Book. New. Hardcover. Lady Augusta Gregory's Irish Myths and Legends, or Gods and Fighting Men as it was first titled in 1904, is an essential collection of Irish myths, legends and folk tales gathered by Gregory from Irish oral story tellers at the close of the nineteenth century. These epic tales are divided into two parts: the first charts the coming of the mythic Tuatha Dé Danaan to Ireland, the lives of Manannan and Lugh, and the tragedy of the Children of Lir. The second part follows the exploits and trials of Finn Mac Cumhal, the Fianna, Oisin, and the love story of Diarmuid and Grania. This is a timeless collection of Irish myths and legends - whimsical, tragic, astounding and ever familiar - borne through the centuries, and an essential part of Ireland's literary heritage..
