Original blue cloth spine with hand-drawn motives in oil and mixed techniques on the front boards, slightly foxing on covers and pages, overall very good hand-drawn books. Oblong 4to. (21 x 29 cm). In Turkish. 2 books: ([9] and [12] leaves), and 21 numbered hand-drawn paintings of Anatolian / Islamic motives of rugs. The very rare manuscripts including 21 attractive paintings in oil, watercolor, and mixed media on fine papers mounted on two handmade drawing books with manuscript titles "Kilim Motifleri" [i.e. The Rugs' Motives], prepared by two painting students of Samsun High School in 1945-1946. Both drawing books were prepared in the same form under the supervision of the Turkish painter Hasan Kavruk (1918-2007). The first book prepared by Tugtekin includes a preface and index page, and mostly Ottoman period nine attractive Islamic rug motives from Anatolia. Examples: Bafra rug of cover painting mounted on the front board, which is an attractive example from the Bafra region of Samsun Province, located at the shores of the Black Sea, in the fertile delta of the Kizilirmak River. Other examples are the Burdur rug (x3), Samsun rug, Bafra rug (x2), Çarsamba rug, and Alaçam rug. The second book prepared by Köksal including mostly contemporary motives which are indicated as "common" and "rare" from the regions of Kirsehir, Kayseri, etc. These motives are classified according to the material they are used (cotton, wool, etc.) and according to the weaving looms. Hasan Kavruk was a Turkish artist who was born in 1918. His works have been offered at international and Turkish auctions multiple times. Kavruk was one of the pioneers of the lyrical abstractionist understanding in contemporary Turkish painting and one of the followers of the Modern Figurative movement. The painter taught painting at Samsun High School in the early 1940s and was sent to Paris for painting education in 1947 by the Ministry of National Education. He worked with André Lhote (1885-1962) continuously for two years at the André Lhote Academy in Paris, while attending the Fresco workshop at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts, where he specialized in Fresco under the direction of Professor Duco De La Haille. At the same time, he continued to the Jean Lombard Workshop to learn the principles of abstract art. During his education in Paris, he met and interviewed Fernand Leger, Pablo Picasso, the famous sculptor Zatkine, Léon Gischia, Maurice Estéve, George Dayez, Marcel Burton, Belle Enfant and Bernard Buffet, and benefited from their ideas and works by maintaining constant contact with many of them. Through these contacts, he had the opportunity to exhibit his works in various art galleries in Paris. Between 1948-1949 his works were exhibited at the International, world-famous Salon D'Atomne in Paris.
