McClelland extracted from Cushing's History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Including its Early Settlement... also Portraits of Some of its Prominent Men. Chicago: A. Warner & Co., 1889. The portrait measures 10" by 7" with the image and facsimile autograph centered; protective tissue guard in place, short closed tear at outer left margin (<1"). J. H. McClelland was a noted physician in the city of Pittsburgh, where he was born in 1845. His father J.H. McClelland, Sr. immigrated from Ireland to America in 1816 where he became a famous writer, public speaker, architect and contractor, who erected many buildings in Pittsburgh. Dr. McClelland (Jr.) graduated from Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia in 1867 and returned to Pittsburgh and joined the surgical staff of the Homeopathic Medical and Surgical Hospital. McClelland organized Anatomical Society of Allegheny County and was President of the Allegheny County Medical Society. He was also a member of the surgical bureau of the American Institute of Homeopathy. .
