Page dimensions: 252 x 168mm. Binding worn. 2" missing to leather at tail of spine. 1/2" missing to leather at head of spine. Staining and a 1" tear to title leaf. "Mr. Dana's large experience in the Musical World has fitted him for the position he has taken upon himself, and the contents of this work show the practical teacher. If it shall, in any way, make better Musicians of those who study its pages, my object in publishing it shall not have been in vain." - from the Preface by J. W. Pepper. Bound with one other by the same author: "J. W. Pepper's Practical Guide and Study to the Secret of Arranging Orchestra Music, or, the Amateur's Guide". Philadelphia: J. W. Pepper, no date [1879?]. 56 pages + 2 folding charts of musical notation. Early owner's signature erased from title leaf leaving abrasions. The first folding chart has a long 5" tear. The second folding chart has a 2" tear at the inner margin. ; 4to .
