When a boy wearing a dress appears in the gulch at the CB ranch and begins playing the fiddle for Max and Will, Max knows something is wrong beyond the obvious. Especially when the boy seems to be Max's double, right down to his uncanny way of moving from place to place in the blink of an eye. Max's uncle tells him the traveling show isn't there to take money off the good citizens of Deadwood; it's there to claim Max. A visit to the show the next morning reveals even more secrets. First, Raoul, the boy from the gulch, tells Max that he's his brother. Then George, the nefarious owner of the show, introduces himself as their grandfather and immediately issues a thinly-veiled threat. After some trouble at the ranch, Max returns to the traveling show to get answers and issue an ultimatum of his own. While there, however, he is poisoned, then ferreted away from Deadwood and all he loves. Days blur into weeks. Between the constant beatings and druggings, Max is unable to access his weapons or escape. When Max discovers the real reason George wants him at the show, he realizes he will never be free to leave. His and Will's survival depend on Max's ability to turn the tables on a trio of evil travelers, but can Max somehow rise above his relentless captors before it's too late? A clean pristine copy.
