About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1975. This First Printing, with the requisite "number line" ending with a "1", is in close to Fine condition, with a Very Good unclipped dust jacket (click on photo). The book is bound in a brick cloth with metallic blue lettering on front panel and spine. The binding is tight and the pages are clean and sparkling throughout. The book does have a former owner's name on the front pink endpaper. (Perhaps, the pink endpapers were a homage to the subject, since Jayne Mansfield's favorite color was pink.) This fascinating biography not only traces the life of a woman desperate to be a movie star sex goddess, but explores as well the attitudes toward women and sex in the 1950s and 1960s. Jayne Mansfield was extremely intelligent, but promoted herself as the ultimate dumb blonde. The book helps answer why. the dest jacket has chipping in the spine area, several small tears, and light soiling. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleeve. The book measures 6 1/4 by 9 1/4 inches and includes 223 pages, with photo inserts. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
