The text is illustrated with two inserts, of four pages each, of black-and-white photographs. Green coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. The biography of Jerome Kern collector of where books, coins, silver and stamps; brilliant conversationalist and musical innovator. In the early part of the 20th century he created a distinctly American musical with Show Boat, and thereby throwing off the German-European domination of musical theatre; wrote over a thousand songs of which many have become classics  'Ol' Man River' and 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes' to name but two. He has also influenced song writers such as George Gershwin and Richard Rogers and many others. Rubbing of the back strip edges with sunning also present to the book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with fading of the back strip and handling marks to the rear panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
