A Presentation Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Raintree Press publisher Fredric Brewer to Carl Jackson - " To Edmund Spenser's lovely lines may I add: "Sanity after steamship" for Carl Jackson from Fredric Brewer 19 June 1980." Above this inscription on the front pastedown is a lovely book plate with the referenced Spenser poem - "Sleep after Toyle, Port after stormie seas, Ease after warre, Death after life, Does greatly please." W. Carl Jackson was Dean of Libraries at Indiana University in 1980. He had sailed solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1978, and was lost at sea and presumed dead in 1981 in his attempt to reverse course and sail solo from Europe to the U.S. His book detailing his 1st trip- "The Log of The Carla Mia"- was also published by Raintree Press in 1980. .
