Description:
Anderson, Ind: Standard Print, 1859. Very Good. Anderson, IN: Standard Print, ca. 1859. Illustrated broadside (30.5x13.5cm.); printed in various attractive display types and adorned with two woodcut vignettes of the pump. Offered together with small printed handbill testimonial (10.5x17cm.) dated Washington City [Indiana], Jan. 25, 1859, and signed in type by Republican Indiana congressman David Kilgore. The former a bit toned and faintly damp stained, the latter with very faint finger soiling and contemporary pressure-stamp, else both Very Good and fresh. The larger broadside includes testimonials by various Indiana doctors, engineers, and other illustrious figures, promising that even "a boy six years of age can work it." David Kilgore's testimonial has less to do with the pump itself than the reputation of the men who praise it on the broadside, describing them all as "gentlemen of good repute, and in whose statement I have the most impartial confidence."
