About This Item

London: Dennis Dobson, 1954. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good. 8" by 5". None. An eye-catching first edition of this collection of science fiction works by English author John Wyndham. An uncommon first edition of this work, in original publisher's cloth binding with a clipped dust wrapper. This collection of short stories by John Wyndham gets its namesake from the first story in the collection; Jizzle. This particular story follows a monkey named Jizzle, a mispronunciation of Giselle, who has an incredible, if slightly unusual talent of drawing portraits. There are fourteen other short stories in this work, including Affair of the Heat, Heaven Scent and Technical Slip. John Wyndham was an English writer of science fiction whose novels were often set using classical English surroundings or characters, to imply that the plots were plausible and could happen in our society, despite the unusual plots. With a library stamp of The Times Library to the rear paste down. In original publisher's cloth binding with a clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with minor shelf wear only. Light marks to the boards and fading to the head of the spine. Offsetting and the odd mark to endpapers. The Times Library stamp to the rear endpaper. Dust wrapper in good condition, with chipping to the extremities and the odd closed tear. Loss to the wrap at the head of the spine. The odd spot to the reverse of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with some offsetting to the half title. Very Good Indeed

Reviews

On Jun 22 2015, a reader said:
This book was a delight when I was a student back in 1962, and Wyndham's tales of lonely dragons and strangely talented monkeys stand the test of time. His characters are lively, his clever use of dialects puts the reader on the scene, and the stories always have a twist at the end. I recommend this book to lovers of the slightly surreal.
