Contains black and white plates. Pages are heavily tanned with minor foxing throughout. Plates are moderately tanned with some foxing. Small sticker and pencil mark to front pastedown. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Minor holes to hinges. Small cracking to gutters in few places. Notable wear to gilt text-block edges. Binding is shaky. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surface. Heavy sunning to spine with noticeable crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering is darkened.

Decorative leather boards are slightly rubbed especially top and bottom of spine but there is no significant damage. Good condition internally, no loose pages, hinges tight. Some spotting to edge of text block and to the front and rear end papers and the first and last few pages of text. There is a small tear to edge of page 468 which does not affect the text and has been internally repaired with special paper repair tape, now hardly noticeable. Heavy book, will require additional postage outside the UK.

Beautiful late Victorian decorative blocked binding. Floral patter in blue with black and gilt blocks on front and spine. Rear bard similar but floral pattern in black. A beautiful copy. All edges gilt. No wear or fading. Some light foxing in the preliminaries and first gathering a little weak.. dec. Brown Cloth. Fine. Illus. by Sir John Gilbert. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
