London: Longmans, Green, and Company, 1895. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Good Plus. Frontispiece and plates by F.S. Wilson. Navy cloth over beveled boards, title stamped in gilt onto upper board and spine, 12mo (7- 1/4 inches tall), pp. x, 420, (24 page catalogue at rear dated July, 1895 - as called for), with 20 illustrations inc. frontis by F.S. Wilson, colored endpapers. Volume with spine slightly rolled, half inch splits to upper joint near spine ends, wear to spine ends and corners with a few air pockets to cloth, contemporary bookseller's tag to front pastedown and a few pages with soil or corner creases, one old ink dot to fore-edge. The first UK edition was printed from the US plates (stated on final text page), but was published two months before the first US edition. Allen, 30.
