The true first edition, first state of Jack London's autobiographical account of his war with alcoholism - from the life-affirming "purple passages" it inspired (and, in fact, was itself) to his sensitive bow to the manner in which women have so long been destined to save men from such follies. A book which later influenced beat/counterculture icons Jack Kerouac and Charles Bukowski. L6
