About This Item
Didier, 1948. Staplebound. Acceptable. 1948. In-12. Broché. 90 pages. Etat d'usage, Livré sans Couverture, Agrafes rouillées, Papier jauni n'altérant pas la lecture. Couverture manquante. Missing covers, rusted staples and yellowed text. It is important to note that this is a companion text "Introduction, Notes and Exercises" which does NOT include the two novellas cited, instead it is a line by line glossary for the vocabulary (in English), idioms (explained in English with French equivalents) and providing some historical context to references. Designed for French language learners of English (the 12-page introduction, for example, is in French) but considering the 19th century mariner's English by which Conrad exacted precision this glossary is also useful to native young adults, not to mention English language learners of French who can study how the idioms are translated. Includes a few illustrations with French/English denominations of the components of sailing ships. Regardless of language, a useful companion and study aid especially for the uninitiated to 19th century seamanship.
