London: T. Cadell, Jun, and W. Davies, 1803. First Edition. Half brown leather with matching brown marbled paper over boards. Edges mostly worn, scuffs to calf spine binding, titling in gilt. Very good with some aging to pages, particularly uncut edges, shadowing opposite engravings, occasional foxing.. 11.5" x 9.25", 4to., uncut edges, pp. viii, 18 pp. of Subscribers, 2 pp. of binding instructions, 261 pp, with 145 pp. Appendix and 4 pp. of Contents. Includes with 49 Plates Illustrated by numerous Engravings of Antiquities, Views, Costumes, Plans, Positions, &c. All inserts are placed in recommended order. The 49 plates include six [6] single page acquatints, and 10 hand colored folding maps and plans. The author, CPT Thomas Walsh was an Irish member of the 93rd Regiment of Foot who participated in the Egypt campaign as the Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Sir Eyre Coote. His grasp of the battle plans is evident in the graphic military shorthand of unit placements (English, French and Turkish) and a Headquarters view of the battles. "The fire from our batteries however was continued, as the enemy rehoisted their flag, and showed no symptoms of surrendering." (p. 208).
