Raveneau de Lussan, a young Frenchman who whished to see the world, sailed from France for San Domingue in 1679. His indebtedness led him to join the buccaneers in search of his fortune. .. Raveneau spent several months raiding in the West Indies, and several years raiding the Pacific coast between Guatemala and Chile. He details both the romantic and the bleak sides of the buccaneering profession, interwoven with colorful descriptions of the natives of the regions and a clear picture of the Spanish colonies on the Pacific' (Hill 1423). - An interesting account of buccaneering in the West Indies and the Pacific coast of South America, including details on the manners of the natives of the countries he visited.
