New York: Putnam, 1854. Tenth printing. Hardcover. Very good condition. Account of an American traveler's 1852 Nile journey, with a wonderful blind stamped bookseller's stamp at the title page, for Tysoe & Cowan Booksellers and Stationers, Main St., Danbury Ct. Also with the signature of the presumed first owner, John G. Meder, Danbury 1855 at the ffep.
Small 8vo, frontispiece portrait (after a photograph by Brady), 522pp, 4 tinted lithographic plates. Large black & white folding map, 'Map of the Course of the Nile' at the rear, and many other illustrations throughout the text by the author. Short diagonal closed tear in map (secured with archival document repair tape), scattered light fox spotting at a few pages.
In the original decorative gilt blue cloth, with a gilt desert scene with tent and camels at the front board (repeated without gilt at the back board) and gilt obelisk at spine. Spine and boards gently rubbed.
