Pretty cool matching four volume set of Franklin's 'Journey' covering his 1st and 2nd voyages. Published by Murray, London, 1829. Original cloth bindings with paper labels have the owner's name and date May 11, 1829 on front of each volume. Old bookseller's pencil on back blank of Vol. 1 - no other interior markings of any kind. Bindings are sound. All volumes complete with all plates (24 including the map), all blanks, and 1 leaf of ads at back of Vol. 4. These are small, 5.75 x 4 inches each. I am grading these as very good. Please note that there is fading of the spines and board edges. Sort of a faded brick color. Board corners and spine ends lightly dinged. The paper edges are browned and some of that browning enters on to the interior page edges. There is occasional light foxing. The engravings done by Officer Back are very well done. No evidence anything has ever been repaired or tampered with. Just about as close to original condition as you can get. The signature and date on front boards shows this set has been together since 1829. Wagner-Camp 23:8, Arctic Biblio 5193. Please see scans of the books you will receive. Feel free to inquire.

Description:
A very nice copy of Sitgreaves Report. 1853. Senate Exec. Doc. 59. All 79 plates are present and the map is professionally reproduced in full size (27 x 47 inches) and placed in rear pocket. Howes S528; Wagner-Camp 230:1; Graff 3809. A note on collation: it is difficult. It helps to have reference materials and more than one copy. I have both and can guarantee this collates complete. Only condition issue is moderate to heavy foxing in places. That is a common problem with this volume. No prior ownership markings, stamps, or vandalism. In a beautiful modern quarter leather and marbled boards fine binding by Starr Bookworks. A very nice example of this work in fine binding and high quality full size facsimile map to complete the work. Please see scans of the book you will receive.

First American edition of this book. Published by T. Allen, New York, 1792. Binding is fine. Modern half leather and marbled boards by Starr Bookworks. Interior is very good. Has a few stamps from New York Mercantile Library. Edges show foxing, interior is toned, occasional old creases, no vandalism, writing or other issues. Pages remain supple. Lacking old blanks, otherwise complete as issued. Lee was a British born career military officer who sought to lead the Continental Army in place of Washington. Lee is most famous now for his various hasty and leisurely retreats including being captured in his night gown by the British in 1776. After a prisoner exchange in 1778 Lee resumed command only to be court-martialled a few months later for insubordination. He must have had something going for him because he survived 30 years of military encounters where strategic withdrawal was not always an option. Description:
First House edition of this famous report. 1845. Complete in original binding except for the gigantic map which is available in full size color thick glossy paper professional reproduction ($25 extra if desired). Pagination: 583 pages, 22 plates, 4 maps, all blanks present. Includes fascinating pencil diagram of oil rig on back of map. Oil rig drawing titled "Sheffield Oil Company. Warren(?), Co., Pa." That pencil drawing is the only interior writing or ownership marking anywhere in the book. Condition is a mixed bag. Original half leather marbled boards show heavy wear and looks like they were professionally rehinged in the distant past. Binding is sound. Pages show moderate to heavy toning and foxing. Some plates have weird 'dot' foxing I have never seen elsewhere (see scan). Marbled endpapers. A nice well maintained copy suitable for reading and research with a cool drawing.
