About This Item
1965. NATHAN, Robert. JULIET IN MANTUA. Hollywood, Calif.: A-1 Script Service, 1965. Sm. 4to., in punch-bound wraps- 108 pages (not counting duplicates, i.e. 70 and 70A). First Edition. Signed presentation by Nathan on the front cover to the late founder of the Academy of American Poets and her husband: "For Marie and Hugh [Bullock] from Bob N-." Laid in is a 1 1/2-page typed poem by Nathan that he describes as "a small Ode or Odelet on the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Publishing Company of Alfred and Blanche Knopf," which he offers to the Bullocks: "Dear Marie- Here's the (?) verse for Alfred and Blanche (my pen ran out of ink!) It was so good to see you- Fondly, BN." "Juliet in Mantua" is described as "Being the account of the sojourn in Mantua of Romeo and Juliet, and their return to Verona." Very Good (some soil covers, the poem is stapled and folded into threes, with closed tears at the folds. As far as we can tell, both the play and the poem are unpublished, making this a truly unique item in the Nathan canon. $150.00.
