Illustrated end pages showing Caesar as imagined by the Renaissance artist. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography, maps, black-and-white illustrations with the very occasional coloured illustration. Black coloured boards with a reproduction of a bust of Caesar to the front and rear panels, and white coloured titles to the back strip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Caesar lived at the juncture of two great epochs in history, at a time when the Roman Republic was about to end and the Roman Empire about to begin. Professor Grant's fascinating biography brings to life his turbulent period, though Rome was dominated by the great figures of Sulla, Crassus, Pompeii and Caesar himself.
