First Edition. 2 volumes, small octavo, full blue morocco, gilt spines with emblematic tooling, original cloth covers bound in London, 1894. Clamshell slipcase. WW.Smith London stamped on ffep; on fep, circular bookplate pasted, name Richard Henry. With slight separation on back fep and ffep on Volume 1. Volume two has bookplate pasted to fep, name Joeseph Bonus, consistent foxing throughout, but light, and between page 128 and 129 binding is showing. Boards are square, even the clamshell slipcase is in excellent condition.

Moderate bumping, staining, and scuffing to boards and textblocks. Front water damage to the first book. Previous owners bookplate in both books. Moderate foxing and staining to interior pages. The Jungle Book (1894) is a collection of stories by the English author Rudyard Kipling. Most of the characters are animals such as Shere Khan the tiger and Baloo the bear, though a principal character is the boy or "man-cub" Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by wolves.
