Binding looks like it was passed around in a factory. No dust jacket. Sinclair was a muckraker journalist who exposed corruption in government and business. Several passages exposing health violations and unsanitary practices in the American meat packing industry during the early 20th century, greatly contributed to a public outcry which led to reforms including the Meat Inspection Act. A review by the writer Jack London called it "the Uncle Tom's Cabin of wage slavery." Edges are seriously frayed. Cloth is dulled and worn, the lettering is legible but quite rubbed. The front hinge is loose but sound, and worn through at edge of spine. There is a light front edge and corner dampstain that most affects the first few, and last few signatures, most the title half title pages. Some minor waving of bottom edge throughout. Inner hinges cracked but sound. Now in an archival acetate jacket. No former owner marks, so provenance is not known. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
