Tokyo.: YÅ«bunkan. Taisho 13. 114th correction made Showa 11 ( 1936).. Color lithographic map, 28 1/4 x 39 1/2 inches on sheet size 31 x 42 3/4 inches, folding as issued to 10 x 6 inches, with paper tab attached at right centre edge to enable it to be bound into a folder (this appears to be after-market). Very good condition. A handsome, detailed world map bordered in upper and lower margins with city maps. Text in Japanese. Original publication date of 1913 (Taisho 2) noted in left margin, with 1936 (Showa 11) being the date when the 114th correction was made. Somewhat mysteriously, given this fact, we have not been able to locate another copy of this title. WorldCat lists many different maps by this mapmaker, Kuroiwa Yoshima, but no world maps. The publishing company is YÅ«bunkan, and the person who did the publishing/printing was Kanai NaozÅ (Kanda-ku, Tokyo) â likely the owner or head of the company. Other maps by Kuroiwa were of Sapporo, Japan, Manchukuo. A further mystery is the meaning of the red and black-dotted lines, which appear to be lines of global communication, perhaps cable lines. A striking map demonstrating Japan's central place on the world stage in the years leading up to the Second World War. .
