London & New York: George Routledge & Sons, [1883]. Four cards (three oblong quarto & one quarto , measuring approximately 9 3/4 x 7 3/8 inches; 249 x188 mm.), each with colored and floral borders or decorations, containing costumed figures in color and a calendar for 1884. The four cards contained in the original cream envelope (issue B - without the space for a postage stamp in the upper right corner) with an illustration printed in black on left-hand side,showing mother and two children in winter attire. The little boy is holding a card which says "A Happy New Year to You", and the little girl is holding one which says "Christmas is Come". The edges of the envelope have been strengthened with tape, otherwise near fine. We have never seen the printed envelope before... Schuster & Engen. Kate Greenaway. A Catalogue Raisonné, 325b.

Description:
London: The Bodley Head, 1982. Four facsimile calendars from the original edition published in London in 1884 by George Routledge & Sons, held within a decorated envelope, contained in a card slipcase. Ex-library copy, with a stamp and reference on the decorated envelope, and a stamp to the rear of each calendar. Slip case is in fine condition. Light shelf and handling wear to envelope, including creasing and notable tanning. Calendar sheets are beautifully decorated and unmarked to the front, each with tiny pin-hole at top for hanging. Colours true. CN. Paperback. Good. Used.

All contained in the issued slipcase which is in near fine condition.

Each calendar comes in its own own mailing envelope, and all four fit into a single slipcase. Few of the original calendars have survived to the present day. Originally published in 1884 by George Routledge, London. The beautiful drawings would appeal to most ages. (One of a set of 35 handsome facsimiles in 28 slipcases.).

London, George Routledge, 1883.. 4 cards, 3 landscape, 1 portrait format, 187 x 245 mm, 7 3/8 x 9 5/8 inches, (Nos 2, 3 and 4 about 5 mm (¼") wider), each with different coloured illustrations and decorations and the calendar for the whole year, reverse blank, tiny hole punched at the top of each for hanging. 1) 4 small girls dressed for the seasons, 2 vases of tulips below; 2) 6 girls above and 6 below the calendar, dressed for the seasons; 3) 3 young children at the top, 2 young ladies at left, 2 young women each with a baby at right, 3 old ladies in winter clothes at foot; 4) the same size but portrait format: 2 little girls hold hands at top, 1 in a spring outfit, the other in winter clothes. Very tiny chips to some corners, very small closed tear to margin corner and tiny chip to top edge of No.1, reverse of No.1 marked at the edges by old sellotape now removed. A very good set.
