About This Item
New York: Sarony & Major, 1846. Very good. Hand-colored lithograph; 13 1/2 x 9 1/2; edges a bit unevenly trimmed; a small, closed cut to left margin; faint discoloration to bottom edge; in about very good condition. An image of a beautiful lady, seated in front of a window, it was created by the lithographic partnership of Napoleon Sarony (1821 - 1896), who had worked for Currier & Ives before co-founding his own company, and brothers Henry Major (1820 - 1877) and Richard Major (1825 - 1894). Sarony was also known as a great photographer, especially for his portraits of the stars of the 19th-century American theater.
