New York: The Macmillan Company, 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition, first printing. Inscribed by Sue Grafton on the title page. The author's first published novel, a work of mainstream fiction concerning a widow who lives "on the brink of poverty" with her children in a small Kentucky town. Grafton (1940-2017) followed this with The Lolly-Madonna War (1969) before beginning her Kinsey Millhone "Alphabet" mystery series. Octavo. Original red cloth binding, with gilt titles. A tight, unread copy. Fine in a fine dust jacket.

Synopsis

Keziah Dane is a 1967 novel by Sue Grafton. A work of mainstream fiction, this novel was published by Grafton was 27 years old. This is one of only two Sue Grafton novels published before her more famous "Alphabet" series of mystery novels. This is the fourth novel Grafton wrote but the first one published. Originally written under the title The Seventh Day of Keziah Dane, Grafton entered the unpublished novel in an Anglo-American Book Award contest.
