Limited edition of five copies of which this is number four, Edition Magnifique of Chefs-d'Oeuvre du Roman Contemporain, Romanticists, bound for Warren R. Fales. Octavo. 349 pages. Illustrated after Louis V. Ruet and George Roux, each plate in four states. Full orange levant morocco, gilt lettered spine with 5 raised bands. Spine sunned, minor edgewear, minor remnants of removed red silk to free endpapers, offsetting. Orange levant doublures with sage moiré silk panel inlaid, decorated in gilt and navy blue.
-- Internally generally clean and tight, all edges gilt; bookplate of Adolph Zukor to front free endpaper verso, bookseller's fore-edge painting label pasted to front blank recto, minor intermittent foxing. Unsigned gift inscription to the bookplate of George A. Zabriskie, former President of the New York Historical Society and noted book author, collector, binder, and finisher, laid in. Near fine with bright, though somewhat amateur, fore-edge painting. From the Estate of Randall J. Moskovitz, MD, Memphis, Tennessee.
