Landsowne Editions. Leather Bound. Fine. Sydney: Lansdowne Editions, 1983-1993. Four volumes in two solander boxes with leather labels and velvet lined interiors, Folios. PART I: Alcedinidae (Kingfishers) 564 pp. with 52 color plates (both volumes). Volume 1: Ceryle to Cittura (includes the fish-eating and specialist kingfishers). Volume 2: Halcyon to Tanysiptera (includes woodland kingfishers and the beautiful racket-tailed or paradise kingfishers). PART II: Todidae to Phoeniculidae - Volume 3: Todidae, Momotidae and Meropidae (Todies, Motmots and Bee-eaters) 315 pp., 26 color plates. Volume 4: Leptosomatidae, Coraciidae, Upupidae and Phoeniculidae (Rollers, Hoopoes and Wood Hoopoes) 251 pp., 22 color plates. Each of the four volumes are hand-bound in imported leather and fabric and presented in two cloth-covered Solander boxes containing two volumes each. Solander box of first two volumes shelf worn. This set lacks PART III: Bucerotidae (Hornbills). Originally planned in an edition of 1,000 numbered sets with each volume signed by the author and illustrator on the limitation page. Part I, Volumes 1 and 2 being copy numbers 64, Part II a mixed set: Volume 3 being copy number 854 and Volume 4 being signed but un-numbered. The Australian publisher Lansdowne Editions published fine leather bound bird books in the late 20th Century. Most featured text by Joseph M. Forshaw and the paintings of William T. Cooper in signed limited editions.

Half blue morocco and blue cloth ruled in blind and gilt, with a contrasting leather title-label on the spines; a few small light stains to the cloth on both volumes; endpapers slightly discoloured by the leather turn-ins; minimal signs of age and use; an excellent set in the original Solander box bound in blue cloth with large leather labels on the spine and front cover (the cloth is slightly stained). Both volumes are numbered 104 of 1000 copies signed by the author and the artist. This important series eventually ran to six volumes published between 1983 and 1994. [2 items].
