About This Item
London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1953. Paperback. Very Good. Side-stapled pamphlet (20 x 13cm), pp. [iv], 11, [1], incl. two b/w wood engravings by Joan Hassall. Festive green and red illustrated wrappers. Wrappers a little grubby, some foxing, a little creasing, else, clean and tight. A pleasing copy of Whistler's short essay celebrating the English tradition of the kissing bough, a spherical arboreal candelabra with a "bunch of mistletoe hanging underneath, to which the whole candlelit framework above was really nothing other than a glorified setting". The final section explains how to make your own kissing bough.
