About This Item

New York: R.H. Russell, 1900. Very good.. First edition of a very early Parrish work, with plates full of detail and imagination that are a perfect partner to Irving's clever parody - extremely difficult to find in first edition. 12.25'' x 9''. Original quarter cloth, paper boards with pictorial paste-on. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut, grey-brown endpapers. Printed by Updike at the Merrymount Press. Illustrated by Parrish with 8 full-page black-and-white plates. xxxiv, 299, [1] pages. Some neat ink notations on blank verso of frontispiece. Front hinge reinforced, edges rubbed with some soiling to boards, frontispiece verso with a few old tape marks at fore-edge, not on image side, just a bit of foxing. Really a tight copy, nicer than typically seen.
